Someone recently asked me a question that completely stopped me in my tracks: "With so much free advice out there, why did you bother writing TWO management books?"
My answer was simple and focused on you.
I wrote them to build a launchpad. I wrote them because I want to help ambitious people like you. People aspiring to be top-tier consultants and project managers—to reach their potential faster.
To stand out, to build a truly successful career or company, you can’t just be good. You have to be the best. You have to be better than everyone else in the room.
My books are the blueprints I wish I had: strategies, insights, and real-world tools that move beyond theory. They are designed for one purpose: to give you the competitive edges that lead to:
✅ Faster career acceleration
✅ Unshakable project success
✅ Building a company, not just a job
✅ Ultimately, making more money

About Peter Cross
Project Management and Management Consultancy were the end point of my career – but it didn’t start that way.
I began in local government. It was there that I became known as a safe pair of hands. Being regularly parachuted crises to resolve whatever problems that particular department was facing. Excellent training for a consultant who needs to be a fast starter adept at quickly grasping the main issues. Later, I was made responsible for delivering IT and business change projects and finally was the finance manager for a 2,200 capacity music venue.
I segued into the UK National Health Service as a regional computer auditor investigating any number of issues, even becoming the go-to expert on interrogating the largest payroll system in Western Europe.
I moved on to join Price Waterhouse, now pwc, where I mainly worked on IT security and IT-related change across the public and private sectors in the UK and Europe. Since then, I have founded boutique consultancies and collaborations and have been a senior manager and director for major consultancies. I have led major business change projects and programmes and advised literally hundreds of small and medium-sized businesses, global corporations, and governments.
Management consultancy and project management have taken me to more than a dozen countries, sometimes briefly and sometimes for months on end. They have paid for me to have dinner on a Mississippi river boat, the Eiffel Tower, a Swiss Chateau and a chippie in Carlisle. They have introduced me to refuse collectors, clerks, scientists, surgeons, CEOs, government ministers, the UK's deputy Prime Minister and, even in one case, “Peter, I would like you to meet the next President of our country”. I admit it was a very small country, but still…
It's been a blast for me, and if you're brave enough, it can be for you too.

Project Management Bootcamp is the single best pragmatic guide for those who need to deliver projects successfully. You journey through a project stage by stage, discovering what project managers commonly need to achieve at each step. Each step is supported by tables, charts, tips, and tools, which you may adopt or adapt to your needs. Different ways of organising and delivering projects, including agile approaches, are considered.
Because theory only gets you so far, a key element of the book is learning from real projects drawing on the experience of project managers working across three continents. Each chapter ends with challenges you to reflect on your learning, which can be based on a theoretical case study or your own project. The result is a reflective framework that charts your learning and your project management journey from initiation to closure.
Project Management Bootcamp is essential reading for junior and mid-level career project managers, as well as any professionals who finds themselves in charge of a project and are unsure how to get the best result. Students in business and management courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels will also value its setting of theory into a practical context.

Many professionals are now working on a consultancy basis. Management Consultancy: How to Win is a practical guide for both those new to consultancy and experienced consultants seeking formal accreditation. The reader journeys through every stage of a consultancy operation, discovering what commonly needs to be achieved at each one.
Every stage is supported by tables, charts, tips, and tools, which you may adopt or adapt to your needs. It also delves into the emerging trends in consultancy and its markets, ensuring the reader is up to date and in tune with the industry as it is developing in North America, Europe, the UK, India and Australia.
Again theory only takes you so far. A key element of the book is learning from consultancy engagements and the problems common to all consultants, irrespective of the location, size of firm or culture in which they work.
This is an essential guide for aspiring, junior, and mid-level career consultants, including those aiming to become Certified Management Consultants or gain the UK’s Chartered Management Consultant status or equivalents elsewhere. Those on executive education programmes or studying business and management at the postgraduate levels will also value its deft mixture of theory and practice.
